With the holidays now behind us, consumers are likely reflecting on their financial goals for 2025.

Dr. Rikard Bandebo, Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Economist at VantageScore® recently spoke with The Associated Press to advise consumers making financial resolutions for the new year.

You can’t manage what you can’t see, so set a New Year’s resolution to check your credit score monthly in 2025,” said Dr. Bandebo. “Be sure to pay more than the minimum on your credit accounts, as that’s one of the best ways to boost your credit score.

Dr. Bandebo also advises student loan borrowers to make all payments on time, as servicers will begin to report late payments starting in January, and missed payments will affect borrowers’ credit scores.
