Saluting the most powerful women in banking

Date: June 24, 2020

Dear Colleague:

No one would compare the competitive clamor and regulatory rigors of the financial industry to the relatively carefree matters of school or college, but our business and the world of academia do share a certain seasonality. With respect to industry conferences and events, at least, summer is fairly quiet, and autumn brings a surge of new activity and excitement.

So, after an interval of vacations, including a few rounds on the links, we’re packing up our clubs and our putting green, and getting ready to hit the road again for the annual fall conference season. For many years, we’ve been educating colleagues about credit scoring—and learning a great deal in turn—at gatherings such as the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) Annual Convention & Expo, the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) Annual Convention, and the Consumer Federation of America’s Financial Services Conference.

This year, we’re especially excited about a relatively new event for us, one I’ve come to think of as the kick-off to our yearly conference season: American Banker’s Most Powerful Women In Banking and Finance awards dinner. The industry has made great strides in recognizing and rewarding the skills, talents and achievements of women leaders, and as a sponsor of the annual awards, VantageScore is proud to salute the many women who are inventing the future of financial services.

Not incidentally, we’re also pleased to note that our own SVP Sarah Davies, the chief architect of the VantageScore model, plays an important role in the gala. Sarah serves as narrator for the event’s introductory video, which profiles the award finalists.

In light of the looming election, it’s most appropriate that Sarah’s narration includes asking all the finalists what advice they’d offer the next president of the United States. No matter which candidate prevails in November, they’d do well to listen carefully to the responses.

All the best,

Barrett Burns
