Myth: “Unscoreable” consumers have only old or derogatory credit-file data.

March 23, 2016

Myths and misconceptions about the VantageScore model and credit scores in general have existed and been perpetuated over time. Clearing up these myths is important for the industry as well as for consumers.

Myth: The conventionally unscoreable consumers are principally consumers with either derogatory information or exceedingly dated information in their credit files.

Reality: Any assertion that the VantageScore uses “primarily derogatory” information is misleading. There are 11 million consumers, for example, who fail the conventional minimum activity threshold but do have updates to their credit files during the past 24 months.
